MP Siyam: Chances should not be given to any citizen to stand above law

Citing the most important components of democracy to be rule of law and human rights – Maldives Development Alliance (MDA)’s President, Meedhoo MP Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, on Thursday, has stated that chances should not be given for any citizen to stand above the law in a democratic government.

In a statement issued on the occasion of World Democracy Day, MP Siyam said that all citizens are equal within a democratic system. He also added that he believes it to be a responsibility of the government to ensure human rights entitled to all citizens without discrimination.

“My advice is that all Maldivian citizens always continue to work towards strengthening and improving the nation’s democracy. May we always be people that support justice and equality, and may Maldivian nation always be blessed with happiness, and prosperity. Ameen!” he had said.   

World Democracy Day is annually celebrated on every September 15.
