Over 170 applications put forth for BroadCom awards

Over 170 applications have been put forth for ‘Maldives Broadcasting Awards 2022’ – being held for the first time ever by Maldives Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom).

Maldives Broadcasting Awards is based on three categories; journalism, production and industry.

Five awards are to be handed out in the journalism category for which 142 applications have been submitted. Meanwhile, 20 applications have been submitted for the 11 awards being handed out in the production category. The number of applications for the two awards in the industry category is yet to be disclosed.

Awards in the journalism category include Journalist of the Year, News Anchor of the Year, Best Program Presenter, Best Cameraperson and Emerging Journalist.

Awards in the production category include Best Religious Awareness Program, Program of the Year on Social Issues, Campaign of the Year, Best Children’s Program, Best Sports Program, Most Creative Program, Best Daytime Program, Best Environment Program, Best Documentary Program, Best Entertainment Program and Best Current Affairs Program.

Awards in the industry category include best broadcasting channel in television and radio and most creative channel.

Speaking to Sun, a Broadcom member said that the purpose of holding the event was to recognize broadcasters operating in the Maldives.

“Not much have been done to recognize broadcasting organizations in the Maldives. The purpose of the award is to create a productive and competitive work environment,” the member had said.
