COVID-19: Slight drop seen in cases last week with 1,134 cases

Maldives has seen a slight drop in COVID-19 cases last week with a total of 1,134 people being reported to have tested positive.

Statistics publicized by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Monday, for the one-week period from June 26 to July 2 show that a total of 1,134 new cases were reported during this period. This includes 391 cases from the greater Male’ region, 297 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 446 cases from other areas such as resorts and industrial islands.

Meanwhile, 54 new hospital admissions were recorded alongside one COVID-19 death. Apart from this, 13 deceased positives were recorded whose cause of death is not directly related to COVID-19.

Last week, the COVID-19 sample positivity rate was at 28 percent. The week before that, the rate stood at 35 percent with a total of 1,202 people testing positive.

With the new developments, Maldives now has 182,720 confirmed cases, out of which 306 people have died from complications.

Maldives began seeing an increased number of COVID-19 cases following a significant drop in cases in mid-June – which prompted HPA to advise caution over. They have advised wearing masks in public places and have also have recommended high-risk individuals to get a fourth dose of vaccine.
