An elderly patient passed has passed away from Covid-19 in Maldives.

According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), the victim was a 77-year-old Maldivian female who was undergoing treatment at the Hulhumale Orange Facility.

She passed away on Saturday morning, revealing the agency.

With this, the total number of Covid-related fatalities in Maldives is at 301.

After weeks of hiatus, a patient passed away on June 19, making the first disease-related fatality in three weeks in Maldives.

HPA has urged citizens to be cautious amidst the increasing number of cases in Maldives.

“The purpose of issuing an early public advisory is to alert the public on the fact that cases are increasing and to encourage them to take precautionary measures,” HPA said.

Stressing the cases can still be decreased ahead of the impending school holiday – HPA underscored this can only be achieved with cooperation from the public in exercising precautionary measures.

In this regard, the health agency has advised the public to wear masks, pay extra attention to personal hygiene and get vaccinated.
