President: Good progress made in efforts to offer equal opportunities for sports

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih states he believes good progress has been made in his administration’s efforts to offer equal opportunities for all sports.

He made the comment during a meeting with the national chess team – who are set to take part in the Western Asian Junior Chess Championship 2022 – which will begin in AA. Ukulhas later Wednesday.

During the meeting, President Solih said that hosting international competitions was one of the administration’s policies to offer equal opportunities for all sports, in order to expand opportunities for sports that people of various age groups can engage in, and develop those sports.

He said that hosting international competitions would benefit Maldivian athletes, and promote the development of sports in Maldives.

160 chess players between ages eight and 18 years from nine countries will compete in the Western Asian Junior Chess Championship 2022.

A team of 30 chess players from Male’ and 30 from Ukulhas will take part in the competition.

Maldives Chess Association presented the Maldivian team’s jersey to the President during the meeting.
