State debt exceeds MVR 98 billion

The state debt of Maldives has exceeded MVR 98 billion.  

By the end of the first quarter of this year, the state debt is at MVR 98.8 billion.

This is an increase of MVR 4 billion when compared with 2021.

To date, this year, the amount of debt owed to other countries has amounted to MVR 46 billion. In comparison, this amount was MVR 45 billion in 2021.

Looking at internal debts, this year, the amount has increased by MVR 7.8 billion.

Overall, predictions indicate that overall, the state debt will increase this year by 9.6 percent.
