Vote counting is currently ongoing for the election held for MDP's chairmanship. 

Voting closes for all the boxes in the internal election for the position of Chairperson of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). 

Counting commenceds 15 minutes after closing of the ballots, hence for some boxes, it has already begun. 

Voting time has been extended until 18:00 hours due to rain and delys in commencing voting for some ballots. 

MDP deputy chairperson, Hulhumale' MP Ali Niyaz confirms the party has received multiple elections related complaints.

The MDP faction that supports Inthi is raising a number of election related complaints, including switching a polling station without prior warning, display of ballot papers, and handing out pre-filled ballot papers to voters.

Ungoofaaru MP Mohamed Waheed (Wadde) states he had been receiving a lot of complaints following the sudden decision to change the polling station in Hulhumale’ from Ghaazee School to Huravee School.

North Maafannu MP Imthiyaz Fahmy, who is contesting for MDP Chairperson, has cast his vote at a polling station in Hiriya School in Male’ City.

94,211 people have the right to vote in the MDP internal elections. 84 ballot boxes have been kept in Male’, and more ballot boxes in 194 islands.

Most polling stations opened polls after 09:00 am. Officials report the delay resulted from an administrative issue.

Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla has cast her vote at the polling station in Jamaluddin School in Male’ City.

President Ibrahim Mohamed has also cast his vote. He cast his vote into the ballot box for Hinnavaru citizens at the polling station in Dharuvamantha School in Male’ City.

MDP leader and Parliament Speaker, former President Mohamed Nasheed has cast his vote at the polling station in Jamaluddin School in Male’ City.

Large queues have formed at polling stations in Male’ City. Voting began at all polling stations in the capital by 09:30 am.

MDP warns that taking pictures of the ballot paper is not allowed.

Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail, who is contesting for MDP Chairperson, has cast his vote at the polling station in Jamaluddin School in Male’ City.

Voting is going ahead smoothly. No disturbance has been reported from any polling station.
