MNDF: Search operation for Saeed stopped

Mohamed Saeed, 35, who went missing whilst diving off the coast of Fuvahmulah City.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) on Sunday revealed that the search operation to find the missing diver from Fuvahmulah has concluded.

According to the authority, during the past week since 35-year-old diving instructor Mohamed Saeed went missing, an area of 2,960 nautical miles was searched by air, 760 miles by sea as well as 1,000 meters under water, going until 85 meters deep were searched. 

Saeed ventured into the waters at Fuvahmulah ‘Tiger Shark’ dive point at approximately 14:30 pm on Monday afternoon. At that time, he was wearing a black diving suit, black fins, and a black mask – also was reportedly carrying a yellow-orange balloon with him, as per Coastguard.

He was reported missing to MNDF’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) at around 15:36 pm on May 2. 

During the search operation, a fishing tool as well as a dive belt, believed to be used by him were located.
