President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has urged the nation to promote social equality and bring joy to vulnerable groups in the spirit of celebrating Eid.

The call was made in his message to the nation on the occasion of this year’s Eid-al-Fitr.

The President’s message began by extending his warmest greetings and good wishes for the occasion to his citizens. He also extended greetings to the leaders and citizens of Islamic countries, all Muslims, and heads of Islamic organizations.

As the Muslim Ummah celebrates the joyous occasion of Eid al-Fitr – President Solih reminded of the emphasis placed by Islam on strengthening social relations and familial ties, establishing social equality, and bringing happiness to the poor, the needy, and the underprivileged.

“Providing assistance to the poor, needy and underprivileged and helping ease the difficulties they face is something we all can do, in our own capacity,” he added.

He had described spending time with one's parents, family members, spouse, and children as the key to strengthening familial bonds and urged everyone to call on their neighbors and friends to inquire into their wellbeing.

In concluding his message, President Solih reiterated the importance attached by Islam to improving social bonds – adding that the exchange of greetings and gifts would lead to a more joyful and friendly society.
