COVID-19: Maldives records 971 new cases in 24 hours

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Wednesday, announced 971 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 167,496.     

According to HPA, the 971 new cases include; 45 cases from the greater Male’ region, 862 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 43 cases from operational resorts.

Meanwhile, 310 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 151,319. 

With the new developments, Maldives now has 15,871 active cases.      

There are 29 patients in hospitals.      

4,106 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 846 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 5 percent.

Maldives has recorded 294 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August, and began administering booster doses in October. 

As of present, 398,119 people have received their first dose and 370,866 people have been fully vaccinated, and 123,315 have received their booster dose.
