COVID-19: Maldives records 796 new cases in 24 hours

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Tuesday, announced 796 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 166,525.     

According to HPA, the 796 new cases include; 73 cases from the greater Male’ region, 669 cases from residential islands outside Male’, 22 cases from operational resorts and one case from a liveaboard.

Meanwhile, 702 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 151,009. 

With the new developments, Maldives now has 15,211 active cases.      

There are 25 patients in hospitals.      

4,171 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,115 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 7 percent.

Maldives has recorded 292 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August, and began administering booster doses in October. 

As of present, 398,102 people have received their first dose and 370,824 people have been fully vaccinated, and 121,803 have received their booster dose.
