COVID-19: 1,030 new cases; 15,910 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Sunday, announced 1,030 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 159,061.     

According to HPA, the 1,030 new cases include; 187 cases from the greater Male’ region, 716 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 67 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 1,280 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 142,849.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 15,910 active cases.      

There are 31 patients in hospitals.      

4,451 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,481 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 13 percent. 

With the 1,030 new infections on Sunday, 8,724 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.  

February 13:  1,030 cases

February 8: 1,502 cases 

February 7: 1,576 cases 

Maldives has recorded 289 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February last year. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age six months later, in August, and began administering the booster dose the same month. 

As of Saturday, 397,937 people have received their first dose and 370,449 people have been fully vaccinated, and 106,744 have received their booster dose.
