COVID-19: 1,576 new cases; 16,775 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Monday, announced 1,576 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 151,913.     

According to HPA, the 1,576 new cases include; 517 cases from the greater Male’ region, 771 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 87 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 1,969 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 134,841.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 16,775 active cases.      

There are 60 patients in hospitals.      

5,343 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,942 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 27 percent.

Maldives has recorded 284 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August, and began administering booster doses in October. 

As of present, 397,804 people have received their first dose and 370,161 people have been fully vaccinated, and 91,387 have received their booster dose.
