Customs seize drugs worth MVR 21 million

Maldives Custom Services seize drugs imported into Maldivian by the air route.

As per the authority, the drugs were seized on February 4 from Brazillian citizens, one 21-year-old male and another 23-year-old male were coming into Maldives. 

The luggage of both was searched after they were flagged by Customs for suspicious behaviour. Upon a thorough search of their belongings, substances believed to be drugs were found.

It was later confirmed to be cocaine

While 1.760 kilograms were obtained from the man's luggage, the female had 2.503 kilograms in her belongings. 

Customs stated that the street value of the drugs found was MVR 21.3 million.
