COVID-19: 2,142 new cases; 17,721 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Wednesday, announced 2,142 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 143,202.     

According to HPA, the 2,142 new cases include; 771 cases from the greater Male’ region, 1,053 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 48 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 2,163additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 125,190.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 17,721 active cases.      

There are 62 patients in hospitals.      

5,985 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 2,640 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 29 percent. 

With the 2,142 new infections on Wednesday, 17,612 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.  

February 2: 2,142 cases 

February 1: 2,180 cases 

January 31: 2,754 cases 

January 30: 2,838 cases 

January 29: 2,689 cases 

January 28: 2,510 cases 

January 27: 2,499 cases 

Maldives has recorded 278 COVID-19 deaths.
