Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Sunday, announced 2,838 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 136,126.
According to HPA, the 2,838 new cases include; 1,295 cases from the greater Male’ region, 1,066 cases from residential islands outside Male’, 49 cases from operational resorts, and 4 cases from liveaboards.
Meanwhile, 2,980 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 118,249.
With the new developments, Maldives now has 17,589 active cases.
There are 53 patients in hospitals.
7,394 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 3,615 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 36 percent.
With the 2,838 new infections on Sunday, 18,665 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.

Maldives has recorded 275 COVID-19 deaths.
Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February last year. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age six months later, in August, and began administering the booster dose the same month.
As of Saturday, 397,586 people have received their first dose and 369,716 people have been fully vaccinated, and 70,224 have received their booster dose.
