Active cases in Thinadhoo exceeds 300

The COVID-19 situation at GDh. Thinadhoo has become extremely dire, with active cases having exceeded 300.

Thinadhoo was placed under monitoring mechanisms on last Sunday, with 62 positive cases. However, the number has increased to 356 within a week’s time.

Thinadhoo Council Vice President Nasrulla Ali told Sun that although the number of daily cases was relatively high in recent days, the cases had dropped yesterday.

He detailed that cases had begun increasing starting last week.

“There is no individual in serious condition. The last person who had deteriorated to serious condition was transferred to Male’,” he added.

Nasrulla said that the situation at Thinadhoo is better than before – adding that the hope is the island returns to normalcy as soon as possible.

Thinadhoo has a total population of 7,456 people. Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital’s statistics show 4,913 people have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination – out of which 4,515 people have received the second dose.

A total of 1,685 individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 from the island – 1,324 individuals made full recoveries.

The highest number of COVID-19 cases at Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll is from Thinadhoo. The island has recorded five COVID-19 fatalities as well.
