COVID-19: 1,697 new cases; active cases rise above 11,000

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Friday, announced 1,697 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 112,628.     

According to HPA, the 1,697 new cases include; 677 cases from the greater Male’ region, 680 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 60 cases from operational resorts.

Meanwhile, 699 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 100,112.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 11,535 active cases.      

There are 49 patients in hospitals.      

7,263 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 3,269 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 21 percent.

January 19: 2,137 cases 

January 18: 1,594 cases 

January 17: 1,420 cases 

January 16: 1,209 cases 

January 15: 954 cases 

Maldives has recorded 269 COVID-19 deaths.
