Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), on Wednesday, has been contracted for Sh. Komandoo and Mathi Komandoo Connectivity Project.
In a ceremony held at the Planning Ministry today, the agreement pertaining to the project was signed by Ministry’s Director General Anwar Ali and MTCC’s CEO, Managing Director Adam Azim.
The project is valued at MVR 249.9 million – and must be completed with a span of 730 days.
Scope of work under the project reclamation of 16.7 hectares of land in Mathi Komandoo, constructing a 1,520m rock boulder revetment, 353m groynes and a 112m geobag revetment in the reclaimed area. Ratification of 1,690m of shore protection installed at Komandoo will also be undertaken as part of the project. In addition to this, the two islands will be linked by a bridge measuring 200m under the project.
Opposition political parties have criticized the government for announcing the project in conjunction with the elections for Komandoo parliamentary seat by-elections.
However, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih assured that the work will commence and proceed despite claims of the project being linked to campaign purposes.
