COVID-19: 384 new cases, 153 from Male' area

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Sunday, confirmed additional 384 cases of COVID-19 cases, bringing the total cases in Maldives to 98,052.      

According to HPA, the new cases include; 153 cases from the greater Male’ region, 102 cases from residential islands outside Male’, 117 cases from operational resorts and one case from a liveaboard.

Meanwhile, 173 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 94,264.    

With these new developments, Maldives now has 3,511 active cases.

There are 18 patients in hospitals

3,730 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,337 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 11 percent. 

Subsequent to the surge in COVID-19 cases in the Male’ area, HPA, on Sunday, has mandated PCR testing for outbound travelers from the area.

Maldives has recorded 264 COVID-19 deaths.

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August, and began administering booster doses in October. 

As of present, 396,954 people have received their first dose and 368,153 people have been fully vaccinated, and 27,474 have received their booster dose.
