Health Protection Agency on Thursday granted permission for night markets in Male' City.
This came hours after the Male' City Council halted issuing permits for the night markets as a control measure to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the area – in line with a letter sent to them by the Health Protection Agency (HPA).
The decision to temporarily cease holding events such as night markets comes after the conclusion of the latest night market organized by the City Council on Wednesday night.
However, many participants of the night market voiced their concerns to HPA. Soon after this, the Male' City council announced that HPA has granted permission to hold the night market via an official letter to the council due to the request of many.
The council noted that permits will be issued only to those who agree to abide by all the guidelines set by HPA.
This year’s night market was held from December 26 till January 6 at Rasfannu area, in Male’ City. Preparations are underway to resume the night market since HPA has granted approval.
The demand high event saw the attendance of a lot of people last night as well. Whilst stalls were located beside each other, a lot of attendees neglected to maintain social distancing and wear masks.
