Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) started training female bus drivers.
As per MTCC, 10 employees recntly took part in the bus driving tests conducted by the company, out of which 8 participants passed, including one female driver.
Speaking to 'Sun', the Managing Director of MTCC Adam Azim stated that the company has always prioritised and worked towards abolishing the divide between men and women in the workforce.
He added that the female employee who passed the test has been trained and will soon start driving.
"It is our belief and both men and women need to put in equal work in order for the country to progress. So in our company, we have provided equal opportunities for both gender," said Azim.
He further stressed that MTCC has continued to encourage female employees to participate in all scopes of work, and hence there are women working at deputy and executive levels within the company.
The female bus driver from MTCC will be the first female to drive a bus in Maldives.
