COVID-19: 159 new cases, 124 from atolls

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Monday, announced 159 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 89,999.      

According to HPA, the 159 new cases include; 19 cases from the greater Male’ region, 124 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 16 cases from operational resorts.

Meanwhile, 154 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 87,538.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 2,201 active cases.      

There are 9 patients in hospitals.      

3,906 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,139 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 2 percent.

Maldives has recorded 247 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August.

As of present, 395,068 people have received their first dose and 360,977 people have been fully vaccinated.
