COVID-19: 71 new cases, 45 from atolls

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Sunday, announced 71 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 85,042.      

According to HPA, the 71 new cases include; 22 cases from the greater Male’ region, 45 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and four cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 115 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 83,293.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,505 active cases.      

There are 18 patients in hospitals.      

5,668 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 2,030 from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at one percent.

Maldives has recorded 231 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August.

As of present, 392,490 people have received their first dose and 340,730 people have been fully vaccinated.
