Islands under monitoring mechanisms significantly decreased!

Islands that have been placed under monitoring mechanisms by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) in light of the COVID-19 situation on them – have significantly decreased.

In this regard, only 11 islands are currently under monitoring mechanisms.

At the start of this September, there were 23 islands under monitoring mechanisms. By mid-month, 22 islands still remained under monitoring mechanisms.

However, the islands placed under monitoring mechanisms had significantly decreased over the past two weeks. The islands which remain under monitoring mechanisms at present are the ones placed under monitoring mechanisms between August 20 to September 19.

In this regard, K. Gaafaru was placed under monitoring mechanisms on August 20. Addu City’s Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo and Feydhoo were placed under monitoring mechanisms on August 28 – followed by Hulhumeedhoo on September 4.

Other islands placed under monitoring mechanisms this month include K. Gulhi, GA. Gemanafushi, GA. Maarandhoo, GA. Villingilli and Th. Dhiyamingili.

As per the latest record by HPA – Maldives recorded 126 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in the country to 84,290, during the last 24-hours.

The 126 new cases include; 32 cases from the greater Male’ region, 88 cases from residential islands outside Male’, 4 cases from operational resorts, and 2 cases from liveaboards. 

Meanwhile, 123 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 82,432.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,614 active cases. Out of this, only 15 patients are being treated in hospitals.
