COVID-19: Cases spike above 200, 164 from atolls

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Tuesday, announced 220 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 83,875.      

According to HPA, the 220 new cases include; 45 cases from the Male’ region, 164 cases from residential islands outside of Male’ region, five cases from operational resorts, and six cases from liveaboards.

Meanwhile, 135 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 81,939.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,694 active cases.      

There are 20 patients in hospitals.      

5,166 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 2,053 from the greater Male' region.

Maldives has recorded 229 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country has also begun vaccinating children above the age of 12 years in August.

On Monday, a total of 129 people had gotten their first dose whereas a total of 545 people had gotten their second dose.

With these new developments, a total of 391,153 people have received their first dose out of which 332,529 people have completed the second dose.
