Curfew extended in Addu City

Authorities have made the decision to extend the curfew imposed in Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo and Feydhoo districts of Addu City in response to a COVID-19 outbreak. 

Addu City Council made the decision to impose a curfew in the districts of Addu linked via a causeway after the districts were placed under monitoring by Health Protection Agency (HPA) on August 28. 

The council has announced that HPA has instructed for the curfew to be extended by another week. 

As such, a curfew will be in effect in Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo and Feydhoo from 21:00-04:00 hours for seven days, starting this Sunday. Permission to go out for essential needs during curfew hours must be sought with the Addu Emergency Operations Center.  

Additional restrictions include a ban on public gatherings and parties, closure of school except for ninth graders and above.  

Meanwhile, cafes and restaurants are required to close at 21:00 hours. However, such establishments can continue delivery services until 00:00 hours with permission from Addu EOC.  

Shops, meanwhile, can remain open until 21:00 hours and provide delivery services until 22:00 hours.  

Travel out of districts placed under monitoring requires special permission from Addu EOC. Travelers are also required to present proof of a negative PCR test.  

Addu has recorded 1,237 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including nine new cases last Saturday. 1,010 people have since recovered, and the city currently has 224 active cases.  

The city has recorded three COVID-19 fatalities.
