The Parliament has approved to appoint Samaau Ahmed Najeeb, Asaage, GDh. Thinadhoo, as a member to the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) on Tuesday.
Samaau received the approval of 42 parliamentarians who had taken part in the vote.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had forwarded the names of 14 individuals of his choice to the Parliament back in July. Out of the 14 names – Parliament’s Human Rights Committee had given the approval to Samaau, who is currently serving as a Senior State Attorney at the Attorney General’s Office.
Currently serving members at the HRCM are; Dr. Ahmed Adham Abdulla, Moomina Waheed, and Aishath Shifaath Abdul Razzaq. However, the law stipulates that HRCM must be comprised of five members.
