COVID-19: 189 new cases; 1,794 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Wednesday, announced 189 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 81,301.      

According to HPA, the 189 new cases include; 35 cases from the greater Male’ region, 119 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 35 case from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 125 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 79,268.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,794 active cases.      

There are 24 patients in hospitals.      

5,768 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,674 from the greater Male' region.    

With the 189 new infections this Wednesday, 973people have tested positive over the last one-week period.   

September 1: 189 cases 

August 31: 152 cases 

August 30: 169 cases 

August 29: 113 cases 

August 28: 139 cases 

August 27: 103 cases 

August 26: 108 cases 

Maldives has recorded 226 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country has also begun vaccinating children above the age of 12 years. 

As of Tuesday, 384,444 people have received their first dose and 302,512 people have been fully vaccinated.
