COVID-19: 169 new cases; 1,709 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Monday, announced 169 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 80,960.      

According to HPA, the 169 new cases include; 49 cases from the greater Male’ region, 119 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 1 case from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 118 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 79,012.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,709 active cases.      

There are 17 patients in hospitals.      

5,742 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,587 from the greater Male' region.    

With the 169 new infections this Monday, 893 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.   

August 30: 169 cases 

August 29: 113 cases 

August 28: 139 cases 

August 27: 103 cases 

August 26: 108 cases 

August 25: 110 cases 

August 24: 151 cases 

Maldives has recorded 226 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives has launched an ambitious campaign to fully vaccinate 90 percent of the eligible population in the country by the end of this August. The country has also begun vaccinating children above the age of 12 years. 

As of Sunday, 383,089 people have received their first dose and 301,857 people have been fully vaccinated.
