COVID-19: 110 new cases, 34 from Male’ area

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Saturday, announced 110 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 79,864.      

According to HPA, the 110 new cases include; 34 cases from the greater Male’ region, 73 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 3 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 183 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 77,953.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 1,677 active cases.      

There are 17 patients in hospitals.      

4,966 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,749 from the greater Male' region.    

With the 110 new infections this Saturday, 864 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.   

August 21: 110 cases 

August 20: 95 cases 

August 19: 134 cases 

August 18: 106 cases 

August 17: 130 cases 

August 16: 152 cases 

August 15: 137 cases 

Maldives has recorded 222 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives has launched an ambitious campaign to fully vaccinate 90 percent of the eligible population in the country by the end of this August. The country began vaccinating children above the age of 12 years last week.  

As of Friday, 364,847 people have received their first dose and 298,418 people have been fully vaccinated.
