Authorities have placed the islands M. Kolhufushi and Sh. Feevah under monitoring.
Kolhufushi Council president Abdul Aleem told Sun on Thursday that some of the residents of the island were tested for COVID-19 after they began suffering fevers and other flu symptoms, and that 12 have tested positive so far.
“Some were tested after they became ill. Total 12 have now tested positive. They are all currently stable,” he said.
Feevah Council president Abdulla Rasheed told Sun that three of the samples taken during random testing after some of the residents of the island began exhibiting flu symptoms have come back positive for COVID-19.
“The council and hospital took random samples after we noticed some of the residents were ill. Three people have tested positive so far,” he said.
Kolhufushi was placed under monitoring by Health Protection Agency (HPA) at 10:30 am this Thursday. It marks the third time for the island to be placed under monitoring.
Feevah, meanwhile, was placed under monitoring at 12:18 pm this Thursday. It marks the first time for the island to be placed under monitoring.
Contact tracing is in progress in both islands.
