Monitoring mechanisms on L. Gan and L. Fonadhoo have been lifted after more than two months by the Health Protection Agency (HPA).

These two islands that contain the highest number of populations in Laamu Atoll were put under monitoring back in April, following the confirmation of a COVID-19 case in L. Manadhoo – an industrial island that is linked to both Gan and Fonadhoo. Subsequent to this, many had tested positive for COVID-19 in both islands.

Gan and Fonadhoo have been removed from monitoring after 80 days as the COVID-19 situation at both islands have significantly improved. Accordingly, only one confirmed case was recorded yesterday, that too, just from Gan – which has been identified as a direct contact.

Statistics from Gan Regional Hospital states that 31 active cases have been reported from Gan and Fonadhoo as of July 6. Meanwhile, a total of 726 cases were reported from Gan, Maandhoo, and Fonadhoo within the past two months.
