Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed that a total of 17,384 flu cases have been reported in both May and June in the Maldives.

As per statistics publicized by HPA on infectious diseases spreading in the Maldives at present, the highest number of cases are flu cases – with a total of 17,384. During last year, over 20,000 flu cases were reported.

HPA also noted that cases of seasonal infectious diseases reported around this time of the year are relatively lesser this year compared to that of last year. Accordingly, cases of dengue, common cold, and diarrhea reported this year are significantly lower than last year.

A total of 19 cases of dengue was reported in May and June this year. The amount exceeded over 100 in last year. 2,333 cases of diarrhea were recorded in the months of May and June this year. The amount exceeded over 4000 in last year.

HPA noted that diseases spread through mosquitoes are extremely common during this time of the year – hence encourages people to take precautions in order to avoid a community spread.
