President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced that a 270-bed facility to treat COVID-19 patients is to be established in Hulhumale', in addition to the already existing COVID-19 facility.

Hulhumale' currently has a facility of 276 beds, however, there has been concern that the capacity of the facility may not be enough due to the current situation with the virus in the Maldives.

In a press conference held last night, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih admitted that there were issues of concern with the current facility in Hulhumale' and that the government was working to resolve these issues. The President said that the establishment of another facility was decided under these efforts.

"We are working to establish another 270-bed capacity facility in Hulhumale'," said the President.

He further specified the efforts being made to resolve the issues faced by the current facility. He said that work was underway to recruit healthcare workers and that discussions were underway with 144 medical students.

The President also said that 62 attendants had been recruited for the facility as well as 31 call center agents through the Tourism Ministry. 20 staff of the Gender Ministry were also working at the facility to provide social care services for patients, according to the President.
