COVID-19: Maldives records 1,216 new cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Thursday, announced 1,216 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 41,308.

According to HPA, the 1,216 new cases include; 1,013 cases from the greater Male’ region, 201 cases from residential islands outside Male’, 1 case from operational resorts, and 1 case from liveaboards.

HPA said that of the 1,216 new cases reported on Thursday, 836 cases are positive cases from samples collected between 6pm of 11th May and 6pm of 12th May, while the remaining 380 cases are backlog samples.

Meanwhile, 305 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 27,428.

With the new developments, Maldives now has 13,784 active cases.

There are 259 patients in hospitals.

4,500 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours.

With the 1,216 new infections this Thursday, 7,940 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.

May 7: 766 cases

87 COVID-19 patients have died from complications.
