COVID-19: 39-year-old patient dies in Male’

A 39-year-old man who was being treated for COVID-19 in Dharumavantha Hospital has passed away.

The patient was being treated on a ventilator on the 11th floor of Dharumavantha Hospital.

He passed away on Saturday night.

This marks the 74th COVID-19 related death in Maldives.

Maldives has experienced a surge in COVID-19 infections in recent weeks – both in the capital and in residential islands outside the capital. 402 new cases were recorded this Saturday, following 465 new cases were recorded on Friday – the highest single-day spike the country has recorded to date.

With the surge in cases, Maldives currently has 5,221 active cases. 161 of the patients are hospitalized.

Maldives launched mass vaccinations against COVID-19 in February. Since then, over 296,000 have received their first dose, and over 102,000 have received their second dose.
