Health authorities have placed F. Nilandhoo under monitoring, imposing a temporary ban on travel in and out of the island, in response to a COVID-19 case.

Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) states Nilandhoo was placed under monitoring after a person who exhibited symptoms consistent with COVID-19 who was under home quarantine after travelling to the island tested positive for the virus.

HEOC said that the person in question was found to have had contact with other persons, who are also exhibiting symptoms consistent with COVID-19.

Nilandhoo was placed under monitoring for contact tracing and case investigation.

Nilandhoo had also been placed under monitoring in late January, after an official from Environment Ministry who travelled to the island under a special permit tested positive for the virus.

Maldives has 22,373 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 81 new cases on Saturday. 19,897 have since recovered, while 66 have died from complications.

The country currently has 2,404 active cases. 107 of the patients are hospitalized.
