The Maldives has been ranked 25th among nations managing COVID-19 effectively.

The Lowy Institute of Australia, which is an independent, nonpartisan international policy think tank looked at efforts by 98 nations across the globe in managing the pandemic effectively and formulated an index based on which countries were managing the pandemic most effectively.

The think tank looked at the pandemic management of these nations within 36 days of detecting the 100th virus case from the nation. Indicators included are testing numbers, positive numbers and deaths.

With 94.4 percent, New Zealand was ranked first on the index while Sri Lanka was ranked top from the region of South Asia at 10th. Maldives was ranked second from the region after neighboring Sri Lanka at the 25th place. The Maldives gained 61 points in its effectiveness for controlling the pandemic.

India was ranked at 86th with 24.3 points. The USA ranked 94th with 17.3 points while Brazil was ranked lowest with 4.3 points. The three nations are the highest in terms of virus cases confirmed.

China, where the virus was originally detected, was not ranked on the index due to insufficient data on testing.
