COVID-19: 26 case cluster from resort under development

A total of 26 individuals working on the island of K. Rahfalhu Huraa have tested positive for COVID-19. 

The island is being developed as a resort. Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) said that work to collect active surveillance samples were underway on the island. 

A total of 249 samples were collected from the island under development by Ritz Carlton, out of which 26 tested positive. A workforce of around 2,000 laborers is working on the project which includes four different islands. The project is named Fari Islands project and includes three world-renowned resort brands.  

Maldives confirmed 50 new cases of COVID-19 last night, including the ones tested positive from the island. Contact tracing and isolation efforts of the positive cases were now underway, according to HEOC. 

Other than that 22 employees working in airport cargo also tested positive for the virus. A total of 27 were quarantined in relation to this cluster, according to the HEOC.
