Residents of A. Dh. Dhangethi has protested over the decision by health authorities to transfer nurses working at the Dhangethi Health Center to Male’ City to assist in COVID-19 operations in the capital where the virus is spreading the most.

Due to a shortage of human resources, health authorities have previously announced that it was seeking health workers due to shortages.

The operations of the Health Emergency Operations Center are already under strain due to the high number of cases. Health Ministry has previously said that workers in other atolls were to be transferred to Male’ City for operations.

Dhangethi Councilor Mohamed Ramzy said that the Atoll Council had informed the transfer of the two nurses.

“Two foreign nurses work here. It was informed that they will be transferred no matter what.” Said Ramzy.

He noted that the residents of the island and even the nurses were against the transfer. Protests were held by residents who gathered near the Health Center.

Ramzy said that the two nurses were very good and that the residents were unsure whether workers with the same quality will replace them.

“Two local nurses are to replace them. They won't be here for longer than two weeks. We won't get nurses with the same quality as the two.” Said Ramzy.
