AFT Foundation donates PCR testing equipment worth USD 940,000

Ali Fulhu Thuthu (AFT) Foundation has donated and installed PCR testing equipment worth USD 940,000 at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

In a statement on Tuesday, the local charity said it made the donation to assist the government increase Maldives’ testing capacity, and support the safety and wellbeing of the community.

“The AFTF is honored to donate and install a PCR testing facility valued at USD 940,000 in Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital to aid the current measures taken to protect and mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the country,” said the charity in its statement.

The donation made by AFT Foundation includes:

  • One BIORAD CFX 96RT DX PCR system
  • One PERKINE ELMER CHEMAGIC 360 extraction machine
  • Six PERKINE ELMER CHEMAGIC VIRAL DNA/RNA kits
  • Equipment and accessories for PCR laboratory setup

IGMH has thanked AFT Foundation for the donation.

AFT Foundation was established by Karin Afeef in the memory of her grandfather, the late Moosa Ali (Ali Fulhu Thuthu).

AFT Foundation began with funding scholarships, and later expanded its outreach to social development projects across the country.

The charity, in its statement, expressed gratitude towards all frontline workers and the government for the tireless efforts for the safety of the community amid the pandemic.
