COVID-19 facilities in two atolls inaugurated

COVID-19 management facilities in L. Gan and G.A. Villingili in the south of the Maldives have been opened. 

The two facilities were opened in a virtual ceremony held last night by Economic and acting Tourism Minister Fayyaz Ismail. 

The facility in Villingili is designated for Huvaadhu Atoll (G. A. and G. Dh. Atoll). While the facility in L. Gan is designated for the atolls of M, F, Dh, Th, and L. Atoll.

The facility in Villingili has a capacity of 23 ICU beds and six isolation beds as well as 14 quarantine beds. Meanwhile, the facility in Gan, has a capacity of 20 ICU beds, 15 isolation beds, and 12 quarantine beds.

Gan facility also comes with a separate laboratory for COVID-19 tests. The lab is capable of producing 48 tests per day. 

G. A. Atoll Hospital manager Shareef Ahmed said that equipment for testing in the facility in G. A. Atoll was to be received later this month. 

A total of seven such facilities have been established in atolls other than Male’ Atoll.
