The High Court of Maldives has accepted the appeal case of former Vice-President Ahmed Adeeb who was acquitted by the Criminal Court.
The Prosecutor General’s Office submitted the case for appeal on July 15. Adeeb was released after the Criminal Court disagreed with the conduct of the prosecutors in bringing charges against the former vice president. Adeeb is alleged to have been heavily involved in the MMPRC scandal. The court later issued a travel ban against him, effectively barring him from departing the country.
Allegations of corruption and influence directed at the Criminal Court judge who was presiding over the matter had eventually led to his suspension.
PG Shameem also said that there was enough evidence to bring 150 charges against the ex-vice president that would convict him for a period of 800 years.
