Sports Council President tests positive for COVID-19

Sports Council president Ibrahim Ismail has tested positive for COVID-19.

Ismail tested positive yesterday after consulting with a doctor regarding fever symptoms.

Ismail is not an individual that spends a lot of time outdoors. However, he had attended the Parliament’s Committee on Social Affairs, where Minister Ahmed Mahloof was also present on July 7.

Ibrahim Ismail has been serving the country for nearly 43 years. The 70-year old public servant has served as the President and Vice President of the Maldives Olympic Committee as well as the chairman of the National Sports Council. 

The Maldives has so far confirmed 2,762 infections of the virus.
