MVR 10.1m spent for income support allowances

The government of Maldives’ expenditure towards income support has increased to MVR 10.1 million for a total of 2,507 who lost their employment due to COVID-19.

The government is providing MVR 5,000 per person who lost their employment and MVR 5,000 per person whose income is below MVR 5,000.

Income support allowances were commenced since May 20, according to Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer. The income support is provided for the months of April, May, and June. 

Countless individuals lost their posts of employment or were either sent on no-pay leaves or reduced wages due to the COVID-19 economic impact.
