National Emer5gency Operations Center (NEOC) has announced that a decision on the islands of G.A Gemanafushi and G.A. Maamendhoo will be made after contact tracing work on the islands are completed.
Earlier today, an individual under home quarantine on the island of Maamendhoo had tested positive for COVID-19. The individual had traveled to Male’ City at the end of May as a helper to a sickly individual that required medical care. The positive individual traveled back to Maamendhoo on June 13.
In a presser tonight, NEOC spokesperson Mabrouq said that the contact tracing work was not expected to take long since it was a home quarantine case.
NEOC confirmed that travelers to Gemanafushi and Maamendhoo were among those that traveled with the individual to the island. The person had traveled via Kooddoo airport.
G.A. Atoll Council president Ahmed Fuaad, had earlier confirmed that the positive individual was a 28-year old male. Samples from the individual were collected last Tuesday.
Two others were quarantined at the residence along with the man. However, samples were collected only from the individual.
There are currently 29 individuals in home quarantine on the island.
A positive case was identified from an individual in quarantine at Addu City earlier this month as well.
