Vilivaru facility expanded to accommodate 218 patients

Tourism Ministry, on Tuesday, announced the completion of the project to expand the COVID-19 isolation facility developed in K. Vilivaru.

With the completion of the expansion project, Vilivaru now has 218 patient beds, 20 toilets, 29 showers, 30 service staff rooms, and catering and medical facilities.

The Vilivaru facility will house foreign nationals who test positive for COVID-19 in Maldives.

The facility was initially developed with 30 patient beds, and was later closed for the expansion project.

According to the Tourism Ministry, the expansion project was completed with huge support from Fenaka Corporation.

The project was completed in 14 days, and has now been handed over to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

Tourism Minister Ali Waheed, Defense Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi, and Chief of Defense Force Major General Abdulla Shamal have toured the facility to inspect the changes.

1,106 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Maldives; 399 Maldivian nationals and 707 foreign nationals. 80 people have since recovered and four have died from complications.

Dozens of resorts have been repurposes as quarantine and isolation facilities.
