Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced that a further ten cases have tested positive for COVID-19.
A tweet sent out from the official account of HPA read that the new positive cases included six Bangladeshi nationals and four Maldivians.
The total figure for the country has now jumped to 744 with these new cases.
The Maldives has already confirmed 86 cases today. With the additional cases, the country has now confirmed 96 cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. This is a surge in the number of positive cases when compared to the previous three days. A substantial reduction in the number of positive cases was reported in those days.

As of 11:00pm, confirmed an additional 10 cases of COVID-19 infection in Maldives.

- 04 Maldivians
Total number of cases: 744
Out of the previously announced 86 cases, 67 individuals are Bangladeshi nationals. 14 Maldivians also tested positive for the virus along with three Indians, one Sri Lankan and one Nepali national.
230 Maldivians in total have tested positive for the virus so far while 502 foreigners have tested positive. The country has so far recorded three deaths from the virus along with 20 recoveries.
Medical professionals in the country have warned that the country could expect a peak in cases at the end of May. Projections show that 1500 cases may occur in the country on the peak day of May 31. With the limited testing capability, authorities would be able to identify only 400 cases on the peak day.
The projected total figure for infections in the country stands at around 77,000 cases, while the country could suffer 900 deaths from the virus according to the projections.
