9-man AC Milan loses 2-1 at Udinese in Serie A

MILAN (AP) — AC Milan's woeful start to the season got even worse after having two players sent off in a 2-1 loss at struggling Udinese in Serie A on Sunday.

The loss heaped more pressure on Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri, although he remained defiant despite starting the season with just one win and three defeats in Serie A.

"There's no sense talking about me being sacked, it's not up to me to decide," Allegri said. "There's no problem on my side, nor on the club's. I have never felt a lack of faith from the club. The club has said I'm staying and that's fine. Our relationship is really good as it has always been."

Milan Vice President Adriano Galliani also said Allegri "has the president's complete confidence, and mine. We are at his side."

Mathias Ranegie gave Udinese the lead five minutes from halftime, but Stephan El Shaarawy leveled 10 minutes into the second half.

However, Cristian Zapata was sent off for a second yellow card for bringing down Ranegie in the area shortly after the hour mark, and Antonio Di Natale fired home the resulting penalty.

Milan's night just got worse when Kevin-Prince Boateng was also dismissed for a second bookable offense.

It was Udinese's first win of the season.

"It's a defeat but we played well," Allegri said. "We still have to improve. We have to remain united because we have the quality to come back. I don't feel like a victim or the one to blame. I was also being blamed when we had a four-point lead. Last season at this time we had two points more. If we win on Wednesday, we'll have a point more (than last season)."

Elsewhere, Inter Milan was booed off the field after losing 2-0 at home to bottom-place Siena. Neither Milan team has won at home on the new San Siro pitch in any competition this season.

Siena also picked up its first win of the campaign thanks to goals from Simone Vergassola and Francesco Valiani.

It is the first time goalkeeper Samir Handanovic — who was signed from Udinese in the offseason — has conceded for Inter in Serie A.

Juventus — which beat Chievo Verona on Saturday — now has sole lead of Serie A and is the only team to still have a perfect record after Lazio lost at home to Genoa, Sampdoria drew against Catania and Napoli was held by Torino.

Marco Borriello, who had scored in his last two games against Lazio, for Milan and Roma, continued to haunt the capital side as he scored the only goal of the game 11 minutes from time.

Napoli had never won at Catania but the home side got off to a dreadful start when Pablo Alvarez was sent off after a minute for a foul on Edinson Cavani.

However, despite playing with a numerical advantage for over 88 minutes and dominating the match, Napoli could not find the back of the net.

Catania could even have won the game two minutes from time when Alejandro Gomez saw his effort crash off the post.

Sampdoria drew 1-1 against fellow promoted side Torino in the lunchtime fixture.

Torino took the lead in the 69th minute after Roberto Soriano brought down Cerci in the area. Rolando Bianchi fired in the resulting penalty for his fourth goal of the season.

Sampdoria leveled with its own spot kick when Kamil Glik fouled Eder, who had just come on for the home side and had put himself in a great position in front of goal with his first touch of the game.

Torino goalkeeper Jean-Francois Gillet got a hand to Nicola Pozzi's penalty but could not prevent it from going into the bottom left corner.

Palermo's new coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, got off to a poor start as his team lost 1-0 at Atalanta.

Former Palermo midfielder Cristian Raimondi headed in the winner two minutes from time.

Elsewhere, 10-man Pescara picked up its first point of the season as it drew 1-1 at Bologna. Alberto Gilardino scored the opener in the ninth minute but Juan Quintero leveled for the visitors five minutes from halftime.

Gilardino was brought down on the hour mark by Pescara goalkeeper Mattia Perin, who was promptly dismissed. However, substitute goalkeeper Ivan Pelizzoli kept out Alessandro Diamanti's penalty with a diving save.
